  • 08:49 Realized at 2 am that I hadn't had a single non-caffeinated beverage yesterday. Let me sleep in your arms.

On a scale of one to ten, one being not at all wrong - saintly innocent in fact, and ten being as wrong as a seriously fat girl gyrating in a string bikini whilst rubbing baby oil on her rolls, exactly how wrong of me would it be click on this here email:

this one time at pagan camp...

How to explain Camp?  I showed up at home a full 15 hours sooner than I would have ever guessed, and the trip home with the BF was filled with silence for 2 hours.

*shrugs*  it was nothing of what I expected by my favorite week of the year.  It wasn't necessarily bad, per se, it just wasn't much of anything.  I can't say it too loud cuz the BF will notice (*cough*) but he was right.  We should have saved the money and just stayed home.  At least that would have been relaxing.  Unfortunately, he said this before we left and at the time I disagreed.

We left at 10:30pm literally about 5 minutes after they lit the big bonfire.  We didn't even get out of the truck to see it, and none of the family got goodbye hugs.  I was already in a foul mood that day, and the BF had been a "whiney bitch" (he said it, not I) since he woke up that morning.  Not a good combination for a festival.  So as the bonfire blew up, so did the attitudes within the truck.

There's more I should prolly get out, but it will have to wait.  I still have a truck to unpack (we got home at 1:30am and I feel into bed,) 5 days of ickyness to get off me, a floor to smudge, kids to pick up from the rents, and half a day to just sit and go 'blah.'

On the upside

Neil Patrick Harris is tall, dynamic and can sell just about any line. If Dr. Who was ever a Yank, I can see him doing it, but only for a few episodes. Harris is one of those character actors who should get as many roles as he can. He has impeccable timing and is the main reason, I think, why Dr. Horrible's ending works at all.

Poll time!

I am an evil overlord bent on conquering the entire universe, and I am currently conducting job interviews. My faceless expendable goons have just dragged you up from the dungeon and hurled you to the floor at my feet. If you sound useful, I'll hire you, but if you turn out to be worthless, I'll have you dumped into the pit of mad man-eating bunnies that sits below my lavishly decorated throne room. Bunnies need to eat too, you know, and by feeding you to the cute yet vicious and deadly creatures, I've just provided you with a true meaning to the remaining few minutes of your existence! You can thank me later. After I've found the Ouija board.

So. What position will you ask for, and why should I hire you?

H'okay. Remind me not to snort cocaine off a hooker's ass before bedtime, mmmmkay?

Had a dream taht involved some sort of a conference (not a convention, because no one was dressed up) where I was seated at a table with Vlaaaaadimeeer Pyooooootin who kept trying to talk policy or something with me and I'm unable to hear so I clamber up onto the table and sit Indian style near the boss of Russia as he starts writing stuff in Ukranian at me while talking policy.

Brain? Are you telling me I shouldn't be trying to read [info]dashing(NWS/NSFW) before bedtime?

Postscript to Yesterday.

Not to belabor this point because I'm as tired of writing and thinking about it as you are of reading about it, but I decided that I was going to make a concerted effort just to *not* read anybody who's not on my f-list anymore. Maybe I'll look once a month or something but I don't need to be looking once or twice a week. I've added, or added back, as many non-friends as I can whose shite I still want to read. Some of them had been on my list and I dropped them either for inactivity or because they formerly had ties to a particular person on my "do not deal with" list. (Sadly, there are still a few people who I don't think I can add or really talk to because they're still intimately involved with said dispenser of turditude. ) Some of them I often enjoyed reading but just didn't add because I didn't know how my journal would go over with them or I was worried about "issues" with a different mutual friend who sometimes bitched at me for being too friendly with people they considered "Their Friends" (which is laughably ironic in light of how they've behaved with some of MY friends, but I don't wish to go into that further here).

I had a couple more paragraphs written about this but I think what I said is enough so I cut it short.

I was also thinking of going to the movies today because "The Dark Knight", which I'm not sure I want to sit through, and "Mamma Mia!" which I'm slighly more interested in sitting through (plus it's an hour shorter) are both playing up the street. I might still go but I've come to the conclusion that I don't like movies in theaters that much - too passive, can't do other things during the movie, it's dark, you gotta be quiet, etc. - and I mostly go to theater movies in order to consume 1000+ calorie buttered popcorns that I never eat at other times. Even if Heath Ledger is the best thing since Bogart in Casablanca, sitting through 2 hours and 48 minutes of him plus previews of coming attractions would require me to eat at least two large popcorns with extra butter sauce refills. Add to this the feelings of self-loathing I get when watching gorgeous skinny actresses as I shove buttered popcorn in my face and...well. I might still go later but I read themoviespoiler.com and that'll do, for now. I like to know the end in advance. I read fiction last chapter first as well.

OK, I've seen some criticism about Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog and I want to put down my thoughts about it and address some of the criticism that I've seen.

heat wave!

Changing my address for my New Yorker subscription is ridiculously easy online. In fact, I could probably have stolen someone else's if I wanted (although rerouting it to my new address would probably have given the game away).
Signing my internet plan over to my house mates is not so easy.
What's left to do? I keep losing my lists.

Everyone is saying goodbye; it's like I'm a witness to my own (very long) wake.

Driving over to Long Branch for the first and last time to visit a friend: It would have been better had my car been equipped with air conditioning.

Hard to stay hydrated even when sitting still.
Harder after caffeine.

One more week. Can't wait to get the continual swan song over with.

Oh, Public Library, I think I'm going to miss you most of all!

Samurai Champloo FTW!

OK, I finally got to watch the end of the Samurai Champloo series. This was undeniably one of the best anime that I've ever watched.

For those who don't know it, it's the story of three wanderers who end up travelling together in the age of samurai. Fuu is a teenage girl who has convinced her companions to be her bodyguards as she searches for a samurai who "smells of sunflowers". Mugen is a ruffian who fights in an unconventional style with his strange sword and steel soled sandals, he's crude and crass and very much the "id" figure. Jin is Mugen's polar opposite, he is refined, carries himself with dignity and rarely speaks. But both Jin and Mugen travel the same path, just travelling abroad in search of someone who is worthy and capable of besting them in personal combat. Take this classic style samurai tale and then pepper it with anachronisms and rap music. The storylines of different episodes run from campy humor (the two sons of a master swordsmen engaging in a graphiti contest) to tragic drama.

My only gripe is that Fuu spends a heck of a lot of time getting kidnapped (which even the show makes fun of at one point) and even though the core storyline is following her character it seems like she doesn't get to do much. I thought the gambling house scene early on in the series with her was cool, but then they didn't do much with her the rest of the series.

There were two episodes that were pretty much a waste of time, but that happens in any TV series. The rest of the shows, I felt, had some good stories to tell and did so very well. Heck I even got a little misty eyed in the final episodes.

So if you are looking for a cool anime to check out, I'm going to recommend Samurai Champloo. I just wish I could get the series on DVD for a reasonable price, it's going for a pretty outlandish price right now.

Ummmm....

Not really liking the end of Dr. Horrible. )

Maybe this is why a writing team is good, so the self-aware nice guy can be reminded when he's writing like a nice guy himself. Sort of like how Judd Apatow without Paul Feig increasingly treats women like a different fuckable species.

EDITED TO ADD: The rest of it was enjoyable, though.
